Today’s lesson was about communion with the Holy Spirit & the Gospel. The goal of the lesson was to look at assigned passages of Scripture and identify how the Holy Spirit works in the spirit of a Christian regarding the Gospel.
I thought I’d share my assignment passages and notes in hopes that it may be of edification and help to a fellow brother or sister in the Lord.
Romans 5:1-5 ESV
1 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
2 Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
3 More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance,
4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope,
5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
– The Holy Spirit pours God’s love into our hearts.
Romans 8:9 ESV
9 You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.
– The Holy Spirit dwells in the believer, therefore the believer is OF Him, and the believer belongs to God.
Ephesians 1:3 ESV
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places…
– The Holy Spirit conveys the saving gifts of God to believers, gifts that are of heavenly origin.
1 Thessalonians 1:5 ESV
5 because our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction. You know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake.
– The Holy Spirit enables the Gospel to have power; the Gospel doesn’t rest in human words.
Titus 3:5 ESV
5 he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit…
– The Holy Spirit washes, regenerates, and renews believers.
1 Peter 1:12 ESV
12 It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in the things that have now been announced to you through those who preached the good news to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which angels long to look.
– The Holy Spirit enables us to understand the Gospel and reveals it to us.
1 Peter 3:18 ESV
18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit…
– The Holy Spirit has made us alive!
1 Peter 4:6 ESV
6 For this is why the gospel was preached even to those who are dead, that though judged in the flesh the way people are, they might live in the spirit the way God does.
– Believers live in the Spirit as God does.
